France, A Popular Country - My Academic Essay Writing in English

My English Writing Essay On the Topic:

France, A Popular Country

According to the United Nations World Tourism Index, France is the most visited country in Europe, with almost 80 million international tourists visiting the country in 2011(Tomalin, 2013). France is a developed country with the world’s sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and ninth-largest by purchasing power parity. It has been a global center of art, science, and philosophy. The country attracts tourists from every part of the world and 80% of these tourists visited from European countries mostly Germany, Belgium, and Italy(www.entreprises.gouv.fr). The number of tourists visiting France is far more than other countries. There are three reasons which explain why France is very popular.

The first reason is that France has many cities of cultural attractions and 39 sites on Unesco’s World Heritage list. One of world’s most popular sites is the Louvre Museum, which is also the most visited museum in the world. In 2014, it welcomed over 9.3 million visitors, according to www.teaconnect.org. The Louvre is the world’s largest museum. (edition.cnn.com) The museum has almost rectangular structure with the Sully Wing, the oldest parts of the Louvre, to the east containing the Cour Carrée (Square Court) and two wings which wrap the Court Napoléon, the Richelieu Wing to the north and the Denon Wing, which borders the Seine to the south. There is a glass pyramid stand over the entrance on the main court, Napoleon Court (research.omicsgroup.org). The museum has an impressive collection of 30,000 art works, which are displayed over an area of 72,735 square metres, such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Michelangelo's Dying Slave.

The second reason is its beautiful beaches. According to www.omicsonline.org, France stretches 1,000km from north to south and the same from east to west, covering an area of 551,500km² which rises to 675,417km² with overseas territories. It has four coastlines: the North Sea, English Channel, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The total length of its coastline reaches 3427 km. Hence, France has a plenty of wonderful beaches for tourists to visit. Every year, a number of tourists visit the beaches in France especially in Summer. There are many activities to do: some visitors enjoy sunbathing and walking on sandy beaches, while others enjoy watersports and yachting. With its natural beauty, the country attracts a lot of visitors.

The last reason is that France is well known for wine industry. According to a 2010 study by the tourism development agency about France, a third of visitors say they choose their destination based on foods and wine, among other things. Each year, around 24 million foreign tourists visit the country’s wineries. (http://www.ambafrance-in.org) Bordeaux is one of Europe’s most popular red-wine regions which welcomed numerous tourists who are wine lovers. There are French wine tours that tourists can join to visit wine regions and taste wine. Bordeaux is also a home of La Cite du Vin, the wine museum, opened in 2016. Three months after opening to the public, La Cité du Vin has welcomed more than 130,000 visitors (www.laciteduvin.com). The museum is for Bordeaux wine, wine history and wine culture.. The La Cité du Vin museum is interesting for people who want to learn about wine and how wine has changed.

In brief, France is a famous country for three following reasons: the country has many cultural interests, wonderful beaches and impressive wine.
